Consumer Utility Bill FairsThe PUC is holding a series of FREE Consumer Utility Bill Fairs. The PUC's Consumer Services Representatives as well as representatives from energy and phone companies - landline and cellular - will be available to answer consumer questions about service or rates, and educate and assist consumers in applying for energy and telecommunications assistance programs. Consumers should bring their cell phone, landline telephone, and/or energy bills with them to the Bill Fair, where they will be able to speak directly with Commission and utility representatives. Chinese and Spanish translators will be available. Consumers with qualifying household income levels will be able to sign up for the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program and the California LifeLine program (formerly known as Universal Lifeline Telephone Service), which offer discounts on utility bills.
The Commission is holding these free Bill Fairs throughout the state. Prior Bill Fairs have been held in Oakland, San Bernardino, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Ysidro, and Salinas.
At the Los Angeles Bill Fair essays were written on Global Warming by 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.
