CPUC TAKES ANOTHER STEP TOWARD RENEWABLE ENERGY GOAL WITH APPROVAL OF EDISON CONTRACTS
SAN FRANCISCO, May 29, 2008 - The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today approved two renewable energy contracts for Southern California Edison, continuing the state's commitment to renewable power.

The CPUC's Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) program, one of the most ambitious renewable energy standards in the country, requires Investor-Owned Utilities, Energy Service Providers, and Community Choice Aggregators operating in California to obtain 20 percent of their retail sales from renewable energy sources by 2010.
California Sunrise I, a new solar photovoltaic (PV) facility, is Edison's first PV project under the RPS program. The development of the California Sunrise project, which will deliver all of its output to the grid, will advance the development of utility-scale PV technology.
The LACSD project will be a new gas-to-energy facility located at the Palos Verdes landfill. It will replace an existing steam power plant and landfill gas flare with microturbines, a fuel cell and ultra low emission flare. The new facility will be more efficient in converting low BTU landfill gas into electric energy, which will result in lower overall emissions for the facility.
