SUMMARY: On November 7, 2007 Steve Hoffman, President, Western Region of NRG Energy Inc. (NRG) met with Matthew Deal, advisor to Pres. Peevey in San Francisco. Also present were Andrew Schwartz, advisor to Pres. Peevey; G. Alan Comnes, Director, Regulatory and Government Affairs of NRG. Hoffmann provided an update of NRG's generation development projects both in California and in other parts of the U.S. NRG discussed that it has an active Application for Certification ("AFC") pending for its Carlsbad Energy Center and a Petition to Amend its AFC for the repowering project at its El Segundo site. Both repowering projects no longer rely on the use of ocean water for cooling, have high efficiencies that further the state's carbon reduction goals, and provide reliability attributes such as quick start and ramping that are needed by the California ISO.
