California Transmission Information and Projects

General Information on Transmission Projects

Specific Project Information

  • Southern California Edison's Devers-Palo Verde 2 (A.05-04-015): Increases import capacity from Arizona in LA Basin by 1,200 MW; projected on-line date Summer 2009; estimated costs $600M.  January 25, 2007: PUC approves construction of Devers-Palo Verde No. 2.
  • SDG&E's Sunrise Powerlink:  Increases import capacity into San Diego Region on Southwest Powerlink (SWPL) by 1,000 MW; projected on-line date 2010; estimated cost $1-1.4B
  • Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Projects: The PUC approved construction of the Antelope-Vincent 500kV (Segment 2) and Antelope-Tehachapi 500kV and 220kV (Segment 3) Transmission Projects (A.04-12-008) on March 15, 2007. The Antelope-Pardee transmission line project in the Tehachapi area was approved by the PUC on March 1, 2007. When completed, the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project will provide 4,500 MW of capacity from the wind-rich Tehachapi resource area into the LA Basin. The Segments 1, 2, and 3 are projected to be on-line 2010, providing 750 MW of capacity at an estimated cost of $250 million. Southern California Edison (SCE) filed an application for a CPCN for  the rest of the project (Segments 4-11) on June 29, 2007 (A.07-06-031). Those segments are projected to be constructed between 2011 and 2013 for an estimated cost of $1.8 billion.  For information about the environmental review process on A.07-06-031, click here.
  • Green Path (joint venture of LADWP, IID, & Citizens): Accesses renewables and increases transfer capacity into San Diego and LA regions; projected on-line date 2010; non-jurisdictional project
