Fire events in Southern California

For the latest outage information and fire update affecting customers in SDG&E and Southern California Edison territories the following links may be useful.

Please check these websites frequently because of the fast changing events.

SAFETY MESSAGES//WHAT EVACUEES SHOULD DO:

Electricity

  • Never touch a downed utility line. Even telephone and cable lines can be energized through contact with an electric line at another location. If you see a downed facility, please call your utility at the numbers that appear here: Southern California Edison at 1-800-611-1911 or San Diego Gas & Electric at 1-800-411-SDGE
  • Have a flashlight, battery-operated radio and fresh batteries ready in the event of power outages.
  • If you have a portable generator, DO NOT plug it directly into any electrical outlets. This can create a power surge that can be dangerous both to you and the electric line crews in your area.

Gas

  • Do not turn off your gas, unless you smell or hear a gas leak.
  • If you are told to evacuate, do so immediately. Your utility will shut off gas to affected areas when necessary for safety.
  • If your gas has been turned off, do not turn it back on. To have a utility representative sent to your home to restore service call Southern California Gas at 1-800-427-2200 or call San Diego Gas and Electric at 1-800-411-SDGE
  • Customers with regular, non-emergency service requests may experience some delays in utility responses due to the restoration efforts. Crews from other utilities and states have been requested by SDG&E to assist and are on their way or at work now.

Telecommunications

Tips that consumers can use during a crisis.

  • Limit mobile phone calls; use text messaging to communicate with family and friends. Echoing the request of city officials and emergency personnel, please limit calls to emergency/family contacts during these busy mobile phone usage times. Consider sending SMS messages as another method of communicating to family, friends and others. This will help free up the network so that emergency personnel and 9-1-1 users can communicate without delay.
  • If you’re being evacuated, be sure to pack your wireless battery charger. Have an alternate plan to recharge your battery (e.g., charging via your car charger, extra mobile phone batteries, use of a disposable phone battery).
  • Forward your home number to your wireless number. Because call forwarding is based out of the telephone central office, you will get incoming calls from your landline phone even if your local telephone service is disrupted at your home. In the unlikely event that the central office is not operational, services such as voice mail, call forwarding, remote access call forwarding and call forwarding-busy line/don’t answer may be useful.
  • Program all of your emergency contact numbers into your mobile phone. Numbers should include the police department, fire station and hospital, as well as your family members.
  • If you have a camera phone, take, store and send photos of damaged property to your insurance company from your device.

AT&T customers can call 1-800-288-2020, residential customers displaced by the fire can call 1-877-722-6787, and small business customers can contact 1-800-750-2355.
