PUC SETS SCHEDULE FOR PG&E BANKRUPTCY PROPOSED SETTLEMENT PROCEEDING

SAN FRANCISCO, July 9, 2003 - The California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) today held a Prehearing Conference (PHC) to determine further proceedings regarding the proposed settlement agreement between Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and Commission staff, which was announced publicly on June 19, 2003.

The schedule determined today is as follows:

July 25: Proponents' testimony due

Aug. 29: Intervenors' testimony due

Sept. 8: Proponents' and intervenors' rebuttal testimony due

Sept. 9: PHC (to decide witnesses, etc.)

Sept. 10-12: Hearings

Sept. 22-23: Carry-over hearings, if needed (If carry-over hearings are not needed, then opening briefs are due Oct. 3 and reply briefs are due Oct. 13)

Oct. 10 : Opening briefs due

October 20: Reply briefs due

Nov. 18: Proposed Decision due

Comments are due on Dec. 4, and reply comments on Dec. 9. The Commission will consider the Proposed Decision on Dec. 18.
