SAN FRANCISCO, January 11, 2007 - The California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) today announced that the State Senate confirmed the appointment of Rachelle Chong as a member of the Commission by a vote of 33-0.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Commissioner Chong to the PUC on January 12, 2006, designating her to fill the remainder of an unexpired term previously held by Susan P. Kennedy. Commissioner Chong's current term expires January 1, 2009.

"It is an honor to be appointed to the Commission by Governor Schwarzenegger, and it is an honor to be confirmed today by the State Senate," said Commissioner Chong. "I would like to particularly thank Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata, the Senate leadership, and the many fine organizations and individuals who supported me. I pledge to them and to the people of the State of California my continuing efforts to bring them the most advanced communications services at the most reasonable prices, in order to enhance economic development. I will work to ensure we have reliable, affordable and environmentally clean energy, and clean water to drink."

"On behalf of the Commission, I congratulate Commissioner Chong on her confirmation," said PUC President Michael R. Peevey. "Commissioner Chong is wonderful to work with and has led many important initiatives at the Commission in the past year. I look forward to continuing our work on issues that are important to the state, its consumers, and economy."

"Commissioner Chong is a tremendous asset to the Commission and the state," said PUC Commissioner John Bohn.  "She jumped into her role at the Commission, immediately tackling a number of complex issues."
