CPUC COMMISSIONER GRUENEICH HONORED
WITH INTERNATIONAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY AWARD
SAN FRANCISCO, May 6, 2009 - The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today announced that Commissioner Dian M. Grueneich was among those honored for their tireless work to advance energy efficiency in all corners of the world at the Energy Efficiency Global Forum and Exposition in Paris, France on April 29, 2009.
Commissioner Grueneich was presented an EE Visionary Award for her work on California's recently adopted Long-Term Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan. Commissioner Grueneich led a year-long effort that brought together over 500 individuals and organizations across the state and nationally and from both public and private sectors to develop the Plan. The groundbreaking effort delivered the first comprehensive roadmap to achieve maximum energy savings across all major groups and sectors in California. The Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan is California's integrated framework of goals and strategies for saving energy, covering government, utility, and private sector actions, and holds energy efficiency to its role as the highest priority resource in meeting the state's energy needs. The CPUC formally adopted the Plan in September 2008.
"I am accepting this award on behalf of the entire energy efficiency community, especially the energy efficiency community in California, which has shown the world that you can have a strong, vibrant economy and be efficient at the same," said Commissioner Grueneich. "The CPUC, the California Energy Commission, California's utilities, consumer groups, and many others worked hard in creating the Strategic Plan and I am honored to receive this recognition of those efforts."
Joining Commissioner Grueneich in receiving the inaugural EE Visionary Award were European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China.
