SAN FRANCISCO, January 29, 2009 - The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today approved a renewable energy contract for Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), furthering the state's progress towards its 2010 and 2020 renewable energy goals.

Through its agreement with Topaz Solar Farms, PG&E will receive deliveries equal to approximately 1,096 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy per year. The project, which is owned by OptiSolar, Inc., will generate electricity using thin-film solar photovoltaic panels and will be located in San Luis Obispo County.
The CPUC's RPS Program requires Investor Owned Utilities, Energy Service Providers, and Community Choice Aggregators operating in California to obtain 20 percent of their retail sales from renewable energy sources by 2010. On November 17, Governor Schwarzenegger signed an Executive Order (S-14-08) which established a 33 percent by 2020 RPS goal.
