PUC PRESIDENT CONFIRMED BY STATE SENATE

The California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) today announced that the State Senate confirmed the appointment of Michael R. Peevey as a member of the Commission by a vote of 32-3.

Governor Gray Davis reappointed Mr. Peevey to the Commission on Dec. 31, 2002, designating him as President. Governor Davis originally appointed Mr. Peevey as a Commissioner on March 5, 2002, to fill the remainder of an unexpired term. His current term expires Dec. 31, 2008.

"It was an honor to be appointed to the Commission by Governor Davis, and it is an honor to be confirmed today by the State Senate," said Mr. Peevey. "I want to particularly thank Senate President Pro Tem John Burton and the Senate leadership for supporting me. I will continue to serve Californians as President of the Commission to make sure the PUC is an active pro-consumer body. I will also work to ensure we have healthy, environmentally friendly utilities and an economy in which businesses can do well. I will also continue my commitment to listening to all points of view before making a decision to balance the interests of all parties and make the most informed decision for California and its consumers."
