R E S O L U T I O N

RESOLUTION T-16618. GTE TELECOMMUNICATION SERVICES, INC. (U-5495-C). REQUEST FOR VOLUNTARY REVOCATION OF CERTIFICATE OF PUBLIC CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY.

_________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

This resolution revokes the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity of GTE Telecommunication Services, Inc., as requested by the company.

BACKGROUND

GTE Telecommunication Services, Inc. filed for its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) as a Nondominant Interexchange Carrier in Application 95-03-038. Authority was granted in Decision 95-08-017. The company filed its tariff on December 5, 1995, and the tariff was effective on December 26, 1995.

The company reports that it has no customers today.

DISCUSSION

The company wrote a letter to the Commission dated October 31, 2001, in which it requested that its CPCN be revoked. There is no reason to deny this request since there are about 1,000 competitors in the long distance market.

The Telecommunications Division (TD) recommends that the request for revocation be granted and that the Utility Identification Number be cancelled. Our records show that all surcharges have been paid.

This is an uncontested matter in which the resolution grants the relief requested. Accordingly, pursuant to PU Code Section 311(g)(2), the otherwise applicable 30-day period for public review and comment is being waived.

FINDINGS

1. GTE Telecommunication Services, Inc. obtained its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity in Decision 95-08-017.

2. The company requested that its CPCN be revoked in a letter dated October 31, 2001.

3. The company's CPCN should be revoked and its Utility Identification Number should be cancelled.

THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED that:

1. The Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity formerly granted to GTE Telecommunication Services, Inc. is revoked.

2. The company's Utility Identification Number (U-5495-C) is cancelled and will not be reissued.

This Resolution is effective today.

I hereby certify that this Resolution was adopted by the Public Utilities Commission at its regular meeting on December 11, 2001. The following Commissioners approved it:
