PUC WELCOMES NEWEST COMMISSIONER, DIAN M. GRUENEICH

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 20, 2005 - The California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) today announced that Dian M. Grueneich has been sworn in as a Commissioner following her appointment by Governor Schwarzenegger.

Commissioner Grueneich was sworn in before her family and the staff of the PUC on Jan. 18 by her long-time friend and magistrate Elizabeth LaPorte.

"I am honored that the Governor appointed me to the PUC and I look forward to working closely with its staff and my fellow Commissioners," said Commissioner Grueneich. "The work of the Commission is important to the vitality of the state and its families and businesses, and I will work hard to meet the responsibilities and challenges of my new role with collegiality, openness, and dedication."

"On behalf of the staff of the Commission and my fellow Commissioners, I welcome Dian and wish her the best in her new role," said PUC President Michael R. Peevey. "With Dian's background and expertise in the areas of energy efficiency and environmental policy and law, she is a real asset to the Commission."

Commissioner Grueneich was previously the principal of Grueneich Resource Advocates, an energy and environmental law consulting company. Prior to that, she was a partner with Grueneich, Ellison and Schneider and attorney and principal in the Law Office of Dian M. Grueneich, where she practiced energy and environmental law. She was also a senior associate with Heller, Ehrman, White and McAuliffe and served as staff counsel for the California Energy Commission.

Commissioner Grueneich earned a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University. She is 52, a Democrat, and resides in Berkeley.

Commissioners are appointed to the PUC for six-year terms at a salary of $114,191 a year and require Senate confirmation.
