PUC TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETINGS ON SDG&E REQUEST TO CONSTRUCT TRANSMISSION LINE

SAN FRANCISCO, April 28, 2004 - The California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will hold Public Participation Hearings (PPHs) regarding the application of San Diego Gas and Electric Company (SDG&E) for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to construct a 230 kV transmission line between its Miguel and Mission substations.

The PPH schedules are as follows:

To construct a 230 kV transmission line between its Miguel and Mission substations, SDG&E is requesting PUC approval to upgrade an existing 138/69 kV line to 230 kV capacity. According to SDG&E, the line would relieve congestion on the local transmission system and permit the importation of power from Mexico from two plants recently constructed in Mexicali by Sempra and Intergen. The project would permit the importation of 560 MW to areas north of the Miguel substation.

These PPHs are scheduled to provide the public an opportunity to comment on SDG&E's application. A PUC Administrative Law Judge will be at the meetings to listen to public comment, and a court reporter will record the comments. Comments from the public can help the Commission reach an informed decision and members of the public are encouraged to attend the scheduled hearings.

If special arrangements are needed, such as sign and foreign language interpreters, please contact the PUC Public Advisor's Office at (415) 703-2074 or toll free 1-866-849-8390 or TTY (415) 703-5282 or 1-866-836-7825, or by e-mail at public.advisor@cpuc.ca.gov at least three days in advance of the event.
