CPUC ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE OF GENERAL COUNSEL
SAN FRANCISCO, January 31, 2008 - The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today announced that Randolph "Randy" L. Wu, who has served as General Counsel since September 2003, is leaving the CPUC to join the development team at Hayward-based OptiSolar Inc.
"Randy has been a tremendous asset to the CPUC. His legal expertise and leadership will be greatly missed," said CPUC President Michael R. Peevey. "Although we are sorry to see him go, we wish him all the best in his new endeavor."
Mr. Wu commented, "I am looking forward to the challenge of a renewable energy company start-up, but I will miss the CPUC and its dedicated and professional employees. It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve as the CPUC's General Counsel and work on issues of importance to the state and its consumers."
The CPUC will immediately embark on a national search for a General Counsel in an effort to obtain a superior candidate pool. The CPUC expects to have applications from qualified candidates by March 14, 2008. For more information, please visit http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/PUC/jobs/.
"With California's leadership position in areas such as renewable energy and climate change, this should be an exciting and challenging position for the right candidate," said CPUC Commissioner John Bohn.
Lionel Wilson, Deputy General Counsel, will serve as acting General Counsel until the search is completed.
"There's no one better qualified than Lionel to help keep the CPUC's Legal Division on track during this search. I'm grateful he's agreed to take this job on," said CPUC Executive Director Paul Clanon.
The CPUC's General Counsel is selected by the CPUC's five Commissioners and receives an annual salary of $139,800.
